Russian MOD confirms agreement on E. Ghouta safe zone signed, borders established

The agreements on functioning of Eastern Ghouta de-escalation zone in Syria have been signed, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on Saturday.
The agreements, which were signed in Cairo, Egypt, define borders of the de-escalation zone and locations of control powers, according to the statement.
"These documents define the borders of the de-escalation zone, the deployment sites and powers of the de-escalation control forces, as well as the routes for delivering humanitarian aid and clear passage to the population," the ministry said.
The ministry noted that the first humanitarian convoy to the Eastern Ghouta de-escalation zone is expected in nearest time. It will be followed by the evacuation of wounded civilians for East Ghouta.
The documents have been signed in the development of the Astana agreements with the mediation of the Egyptian side, it added.

Yale Dean Steps Down After Calling People ‘White Trash’ in Yelp Comments

June Chu, who came under fire earlier in 2017 for using disparaging terms like “white trash” in Yelp reviews, has left Yale University.
“Dean Chu has left her position at Pierson College and wishes the best to the students,” Pierson College administrative head Stephen Davis wrote in an email to students. “As a result, I am initiating the process of the search for a new dean, who will be in place before the start of the fall term.”

Davis claimed that he lost trust in Chu’s ability to lead students after he discovered that there were more than two concerning posts. He claimed that there were “multiple reprehensible posts” that were part of a widespread pattern.
Chu had been placed on leave by Yale towards the end of May over disparaging remarks she made on Yelp towards local establishments surrounding New Haven, Connecticut, where the university is located.

“This establishment is definitely not authentic by any stretch of any imagination and perfect for those low-class folks who believe this is a real night out,” Chu wrote in one post. In another review, Chu wrote that the restaurant was perfect for anyone who was “white trash.”
“Let me be clear,” she wrote. “No one, especially those in trusted positions of educating young people, should denigrate or stereotype others, and that extends to any form of discrimination based on class, race, religion, age, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation.”
“There are no two ways about it,” she wrote. “Not only were they insensitive in matters related to class and race; they demean the values to which I hold myself and which I offer as a member of this community.”

SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTERThe Sex Pistol’s Johnny Rotten, real name John Lydon, complimented President Donald Trump in an interview with National Public Radio on Friday.
“When the conversation turns to President Trump, Lydon is provocative as ever,” the reporter said in introducing Lydon’s remarks.SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER
“I think he’s absolutely magnificent,” Lydon said. “He’s a total cat amongst the pigeons.
“It’s got everybody now involving themselves in a political way,” Lydon said. “And I’ve been struggling for years to get people to wake up and do that.”

NPR spoke to Lydon, the singer with the iconic 1970s punk band, on the occasion of the release of  “Mr. Rotten’s Songbook,” a compilation of lyrics of all the songs he penned.
Lydon also illustrated the 300-page book, according to NPR.
“I’ve got all these nice little anarchists running around with swords,” Lydon said, describing the drawings, “and the black and red anarchist flag. And of course, the Union Jack.”

Rotten became a U.S. citizen in 2013 and has previously praised Trump and criticized the “left-wing media” in this country.
“What I dislike is the left-wing media in America are trying to smear the bloke as a racist, and that’s completely not true,” Lydon said in an interview in London on Monday and reported by the Washington Times.
“There’s many, many problems with him as a human being, but he’s not that, and there just might be a chance something good will come out of that situation, because he terrifies politicians.”

( Daily Mail ) House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was in a critical condition in hospital on Wednesday afternoon after he was shot by a Trump-hating gunman who opened fire on Republican congressional baseball practice.
The Louisiana congressman was shot in the hip as he stood on second base at the field in Alexandria, Virginia at 7am on Wednesday. His staff initially described his condition as ‘stable’ but the Medstar Hospital in Washington DC later said that Scalise was in critical condition after having surgery.
He was among five injured when James T. Hodgkinson, 66, opened fire on the Republicans with an assault rifle from the third base dugout at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park in Alexandria, Virginia, as the group practiced batting at around 7.00am.
Ohio Rep. Brad Wenstrup, who tended to Scalise on the scene immediately after the incident, told CNN he was concerned that he was unable to locate an exit wound for the bullet that he said hit the lawmaker in the hip.
He said he posited that the bullet might have impacted on the hip bone, but raised a concern that the bullet could have ricocheted. In that case, it could have caused internal bleeding or impacted internal organs.
Wenstrup is a podiatrist who served in Iraq. The lack of a clear path for the bullet through Scalise’s leg could explain why he remained in critical condition following surgery. Wenstrup raised concerns about fluid loss in the case of Scalise.
Lawmakers who witnessed the incident described a period of time running several minutes where Scalise lay bleeding but was unable to get medical attention because of the active shooter situation. He indicated he was able to get control of the external wound, but wasn’t aware of whether there were internal injuries or internal blood loss. Rep. Mo Brooks described working with Wenstrup to use a belt to make a tourniquet to stop blood loss.
